How did you Apply?

The internship cell of our college helped me to find that law firm for an internship. I  submitted my topics of interest and according to that, they suggested me.

First-Day Formalities

On the first day of my internship, I was a little bit nervous because it was my first such internship in a big law firm. But I found my fellow interns and seniors very much supportive. There were many junior associates and they briefed us on how all things work in this law firm.

Main Tasks

The duties that were assigned to me during the course of the internship included the following,

  • Attending sessions of the City Civil Court
  • Studying cases that are associated with the firm
  • Drafting and proofreading legal notices
  • Errands are done with regard to the requirements of the firm
  • Providing assistance in various duties in the firm.

The sessions of the court that were to be attended were those that were held in the morning. The court that was visited by me was known as the City Civil Court. The sessions were held in Mayo Hall. The court sessions would commence at 11:00 am.

I was accompanied by the junior associates to the court sessions. The court sessions were conducted primarily in the regional language, that is, Kannada. I attended these court sessions during the morning office hours on most days. The court session would be concluded by afternoon post which I would return to the office.

I was also assigned several errands to complete in the firm as part of the multiple duties to be completed. These errands involved assisting in completing duties assigned to the junior associates.

These errands were primarily associated with the cases of Aditya Rathore v. Fashnear Technologies, Annie Thomas v. George Mammen and the Coca-Cola case. It primarily involved computer work that consisted of correcting documents, organising said documents, acquiring printouts and so on.

Work Environment

When it comes to the work environment I would say it was the best one. Seniors did not think that I couldn’t do something they however encouraged me to attend the important court sessions nevertheless as they would be immensely helpful in understanding the court proceedings and their complexities. If you don’t know something so no need to hesitate there, they will teach you.

Good things

The good things about my internship at George and Co. are the work environment, supportive seniors, and exposure to many new aspects of law, you can add on advanced skills in drafting.

Bad things

There were some things which I would say were not good, there is always someone who irritates you and I was not an exception, some of my fellows were not supportive and amiable. One junior associate was there always looking for some resting interns.

Accommodation & Conveyance to Office

My relatives live in Bengaluru so I used to stay there during my internship.

There was no stipend.

Lessons Learned

The internship was an endearing and enlightening experience and overall a tremendous opportunity to learn more. The various duties assigned to me were elaborated on in detail by the senior advocates and the junior associates.

Moreover, the court sessions that I attended also aided me in understanding various court proceedings. The several cases that were dealt with as part of this internship added to my knowledge of the respective topics such as property issues, cybercrime, contract law and so on.
